Email Update 4/10/2014

SOAR Customers,

The change that Yahoo made over the weekend has been creating chaos across the Internet this week. Here are some articles with more information.

Yahoo is using a technology called DMARC. Yahoo changed their DMARC policy to reject any email that does come directly from their servers. It is also telling all other email servers to do the same thing.

Google has since "upped" their DMARC policy to quarantine. That means any email coming From or To a Gmail account will end up in your SPAM folder. This overrides any "white lists" you have setup in your Gmail account.

The Email Lists on your SOAR website were changed early Monday morning to ensure delivery of your communications. This change removes the FROM email address from the message. We understand this is not ideal. At the same time, it was necessary to ensure delivery of your email.

As noted in the articles above, every Email List across the Internet is broken right now. There is no current method to provide you the email behavior you previously had.

It is going to take SOAR some time to find a solution (along with the rest of the Internet) to provide you the same email behavior you had previously. Then we are going to need to do a lot of testing before releasing to ensure it works as expected. Email testing is never easy since it depends on external sources for feedback.

In the interim, you should help your members use the existing Email Lists

  • Have them "sign" each email sent - name and email address
  • Make sure they understand Reply/Reply All now goes back to everyone
  • Change your "all" email list to List Type of "Restricted". Update your Global Senders to have the members that should be able to send to the list. This will stop a good amount of the Reply/Reply All to the list.
