New: Edit Own option for Roster featureThis feature is primarily for users of TroopMaster and PackMaster. This will allow you from preventing your members from updating their own contact information. This way they will have to forward contact information changes to the person who manages TroopMaster/PackMaster and contact information changes will not be lost upon subsequent imports. The option is available at Admin/Control Panel/Features/Roster. The Edit Own feature is turned on by default. You may uncheck this box to prevent members from modifying their own contact information. A feature to forward all contact information changes to a single email address will be included in the Roster work coming in 2012. By soar at 2011-10-25 17:26 | read more

Notice: Edit Own option for Event SignupWe have received issue reports from a number of customers that the Edit Own checkbox in not active in the new Consolidated Event Signup. Please remember that Edit Own is ONLY available to customers that are using Individual Accounts for each member. If you are using Shared Accounts there is no way for the website to know who is logged in. Thus there is no way for them to just edit their own registration. They would have to access to edit ANY registration and you don’t want that. If you are using Individual Accounts and you cannot access the Edit Own checkbox for Consolidated Event Signup, it means that you have not properly set the mode for your SOAR website. Go to Admin/Control Panel/Membership and change the mode to Individual Accounts. As soon as you do this the Edit Own checkbox will become available to you. By soar at 2011-10-13 20:02 | read more

Right now email list membership changes in bulk a few times a year when new scouts are added and on occasion as members update their email address. Email Lists for Events means the “membership” of the email list will change daily, if not hourly. That is going to take some time. By soar at 2011-10-13 20:00 | read more

Pack/Troop use of social mediaSOAR Customers, The Boy Scouts of America released guidelines for using social media (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) over the summer. There wasn’t much fanfare about the release of these guidelines, nor have I seen it trickle down to many local units yet. I wanted to make sure these guidelines reached each SOAR customer, so you can use this information if you are using social media for your unit. http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Marketing/Resources/SocialMedia.aspx The summary:

Service Interruption UpdateWe wanted to give you an update on the service interruption issue that has affected 1/3 of our Cub Scout customers. This issue does not affect Boy Scout customers. As you may know from a past Announcement, on August 22nd one of our Database Servers experienced a hardware failure. This server is the home of approximately 1/3 of our Cub Scout customers. The faulty hardware was replaced and the server rebuilt. No data was lost. Since then the Database Server has experienced periods of connectivity loss, during which customers cannot access their SOAR website. There is no data loss due to this issue.
