Security Policy

Security of the SOAR website services are of utmost importance to us. We do the following to ensure the security of your unit website and it's data.

  • All SOAR servers are dedicated servers. No other companies share space on our servers.
  • All dedicated servers have firewalls to prevent administrative access from outside our offices.
  • The operating system and all software components are kept up-to-date on any patches/upgrades.
  • The SOAR service is based on an open source Content Management System (CMS) that is used widely across the internet and has been thoroughly tested.

Access from Verizon Home Internet

There is a routing issue within the Verizon network that is preventing some customers from accessing their SOAR websites from Verizon Home Internet accounts.

This DOES NOT apply to Verizon Wireless customers.

If you are Verizon Home Internet (DSL/FIOS) customer and are having issues connecting to your SOAR website from home, you can call Verizon Support who will change your IP Address which seems to be fixing the problem.

We are trying to create a ticket with Verizon to fix the problem permanently but the process is slow...

Service Notice 7/22/2015 - Access Denied

At 6:00 AM EST we released a patch to the SOAR website service. The patch needed to modify database tables, so we needed to lock access while the patch was being applied. The patch took much longer than expected to complete. The patch completed at 8:30 AM EST.

During this time you could login to your SOAR website but would receive "Access Denied" messages for many of the pages. Your site content was there. It was just being locked from access while the patch was being applied.

All sites are fully functional now. This did not affect the content of your SOAR website.

We apologize for the longer than expected update time and the inability to access your site during this time.

New: Nested Menus

SOAR has added a new feature to allow for your main Menu on your unit website to contain nested menu items. You can now create a hierarchy of menu items to categorize content and minimize your main Menu.

When adding a Custom Page at Admin/Content/Add/Custom Page you can select the Parent Item for the new page you are adding. "Menu" would add the new page to the 1st level of the main Menu like before. If you select another existing Menu item for the Custom Page, it will then be nested below that item.

To modify the hierarchy of an existing Custom Page you can modify its Parent Item at Admin/Content/Manage/Menus.

Update: Troopmaster/Packmaster Import

SOAR has updated the Troopmaster/Packmaster Import feature to address two issues raised by customers:

  1. Non standard characters
some spanish, other language characters, and punctuation marks were getting removed by the Import process. This has been fixed.
  2. Last Name matching
The Import matching process works off an internal Troopmaster ID. We also do a sanity check against the last name of the incoming and existing Roster record because the Troopmaster ID is not always unique. This will sometimes cause a website Roster account to be re-created. We have change the logic from an "exact match" to a "relaxed match" to deal with changes to spelling, punctuation, etc. of a last name in Troopmaster/Packmaster.

Update: New Cub Scout Ranks

The ranks of "Webelos" and "Arrow of Light" have been added to Den Ranks to support the 2015 Cub Scout Program changes.

The existing ranks of "Webelos I" and "Webelos II" are still available for use.

New: Additional Edit Own Roster Settings

Three new Roster Settings have been added to further refine the ability of members to edit their own Roster entries. All options can be found at Admin/Members/Options/Roster Settings.

  1. Medical Form Dates
This checkbox will determine if a member can edit their own Medical Form Date fields
  2. Medical Information
This checkbox will determine if a member can edit their own Medical Information fields
  3. Custom Fields
This checkbox will determine if a member can edit their own Custom Fields

Note: The primary Edit Own option must be turned

Fixed: Packmaster Import

Note: This announcement only affects Cub Scout Packs.

The issue without Packmaster Import was resolved at the end of last week. Thank you Troopmaster for fixing the issue in the SOAR.xfr import file!

Make sure you update your Packmaster software to Version v4.03a or higher.

Issue: Packmaster Import

It appears the latest update to Packmaster has an error in the Export to SOAR.

The latest update is missing the Den information for a Scout and a few other less important fields. Based on this information missing the Packmaster Import feature is not currently working if you have the latest update. The SOAR Import feature is preventing the Import because of the missing information, which would remove all your Den email lists and Roster associations.

We have a support ticket into Troopmaster to fix the issue.

In the interim, if you use Packmaster please hold off any software updates until the issue is resolved.

New: Manage Custom Fields Form

SOAR is pleased to announce a few feature that will allow you to edit all of the Custom Fields in the Unit Roster for all members on a single page.

This works like the Medical Form and Manage Email pages for administrators.

Check it out at Admin/Members/Options/Custom Fields. You will need to have the Roster and Custom Field option turned on at Admin/Members/Options/Roster Settings to use this feature.
